Appreciative Inquiry Informs My Approach to Organizational Change
I specialize in “asset-based” consulting to identify the elements that are working well in your organization. This represents a shift from “blaming and fixing” to “inspiring and creating” and results in an enlivened and engaged organization. The focus is on finding what you DO want rather than on what you DON’T want. I will identify the “root causes of success” and your strengths to design and co-create an approach to launch your next chapter.
The Discovery Phase (Assessment): To give you a sense of what you can expect from me during the assessment phase, I will engage in conversations based on these kinds of questions:
- Tell me what is working well for your organization and when have you experience success?
- When was your organization at its best?
- What is your biggest wish for your organization?
- What would success look like?
- What are some of your most valuable lessons?
I will use information gained from organizational and stakeholder interviews, review of relevant documents, and an analysis of environmental constraints and opportunities to design a change process (including strategic planning if applicable) using the Appreciative Inquiry model. The topic or the “fateful question” determines the direction of the strategic inquiry. We will give careful consideration to defining the topic because it will direct where the energy goes and the like outcomes to be achieved.
The Dream Phase (Future Vision): I will take participants through a creative process that leads to a consensus vision of the future. Having key stakeholders involved in this process is essential because it instills commitment and accountability. When they are part of imagining the future, they will help make it happen.
The Design Phase (Planning): I work with leadership team to create implementation plans to carry out the vision. This often takes the form of a strategic plan but can be used for any number of projects and
I work with leadership team to create implementation plans to carry out the vision. This often takes the form of a strategic plan but can be used for any number of projects and activities. This phase adds more detail in defining measurable outcomes so success can be tracked and celebrated along the way.
The Destiny Phase (Doing): I provide implementation guidance as plans are put into action. In order to make positive change stick, the application of new methods and models must be reinforced along the way. I offer Leadership Coaching, workshops and consulting to keep the positive momentum going.
